About Carcroft Village Club

Carcroft Village Social Club was established in 1910 as a workers' social club and was known until recently as Carcroft Village Working Men's Club. In 2017 the Club changed its name as it migrated from being a friendly society to a limited company. The Club, however, is still owned by its members and run by an elected committee, as it always has been - it's a "not for profit organisation" with no directors or owners - just members and employees!

The committee is vastly experienced with many of them having received long service awards from the Club & Institute Union (CIU). The Club's President, Allan Baker, received a 40 year service award from the CIU in 2015. He was also President of the Doncaster CIU for over 20 years until 2023.

Guests are always welcome but it is also very easy to become a member; just give your details to the employee in the foyer. And it's only 20p per year!!

We are one of the few Clubs to have live music acts playing several nights a week, every week. There is no cover charge even at Christmas! The club has a large concert room which can hold 300, seating 200 comfortably. This is available for hire for large events such as weddings, and there's no charge to members. There's a cosy lounge which can hold up to 80 people, a large bar with a pool table, a separate snooker room with two tables and a separate darts room plus there are several large screen TVs in the Club showing live sport from the 2 main providers. .

Carcroft Club very much prides itself on being at the centre of the local community and is the home to many subsections including a dozen junior football teams, two adult football teams, and a ladies darts team. We also organise and subsidise trips to the coast for our senior citizens, and host a separate annual tea and evening event for them. There's an annual kiddies outing to the coast for the young 'uns. We have staged a very successful Christmas pantomime for several years.

Come and join us. It's always a good night at Carcroft!

Memberships
Membership of the Club

Carcroft Club is a social club, established in 1910. To this day it is still owned by its members and run by a committee elected from, and by, its members. Members have certain rights and access to club events. Also, members can appeal decisions of the committee should they be reported whereas non-members can be kept out of the Club indefinitely for behaviour deemed unacceptable to the fellowship and fraternity upon which the club is founded. It is in your interests to make yourself a member and keep that membership up-to-date!

To request membership, fill in a form with the doorman on a Fri, Sat or Sun evening. You must visit the club as the guest of 2 existing members who will be your proposer and seconder. Your form will be considered by the committee who meet every two weeks. Once approved your membership card will be given to the doorman for you to collect in person. We hold a general meeting in Feb - new requests can be made but will not be processed from 1st Jan until after this meeting.

New Members
Renewing Your Membership

Once you are a member you must renew it each year. You can do this in person during January or leave your card and subs in an envelope behind the bar. It can then be collected from the bar after a few days. Note: LIFE members must also have their card stamped each year with effect from Jan 2017. PS: you should renew your membership even if you are temporarily barred.

General Meetings

There will be ONE General meetings per year w.e.f. Feb 2022. At these, the members of the club gather to review the previous 12 months audited accounts, a copy of which is provided to each member. A statement from the auditors is read to the meeting and voting may take place on any new rules or rule changes. The meeting will also appoint scrutineers for the forthcoming election of committee members.

Please note you must renew your membership BEFORE the date of the meeting, which may be held at any time up to the end of March but is usually held in February. To be clear, you will not be allowed to attend the general meeting unless you renew your membership before the date of the meeting, even if you intend to renew after the meeting. There is an embargo on new memberships from 1st Jan until after the holding of the AGM.

The Committee

Committee members serve a term of 12 months before they must be re-elected. As long as you have been a member for 6 months, you can put yourself forward for election to the management committee by adding your name to the nominations sheet displayed prior to AGM in February. The nominations list is displayed for two weeks and is taken down at 12 noon on the Monday after the general meeting. You must get 2 different members, one to propose you and one to second you. A ballot will be held shortly after the general meeting on the dates agreed at the said general meeting. If you have any questions, please contact the Secretary.
